Dark Dunnock in Brittany France (1 Viewer)

Well have only v common birds around here as the farmers leave little opportunity to thrive.

We have plenty of LBJ's and recently I've noticed a dunnock which is much darker than the others. It is almost black, but with all the markings of our other dunnocks.

Is this a sign of age, or sex, perhaps ?

Hello Septimus and welcome to Birdforum. Some of the male Dunnocks can look particularly dark and ‘smoky’, the females, and especially young birds looking browner.
Of course, your bird’s appearance could also be linked to the upsurge in barbecues in recent weeks, perhaps it got too close to one;)
