Nikon service/warranty on Superior E 8x32 (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should send in my Nikon Superior E 8x32's for service/repair to correct what appears to be a slight scratch or "crack looking" area on the left eyepiece lense. When I called Nikon service they told me it would be sent to California and be gone a couple of weeks and it sounded like they would put in new eyepieces. Will they be of the same quality that is in there presently of replaced with a less expensive/inferior lense. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated! THANK YOU and good birding!

No idea, Carmel, about Nikon service in the U.S., but I once sent a pair of Nikon EII 10x35 that I´d dropped to Nikon U.K., and they did a superb job - I´m convinced they came back better than when I´d bought them. There was no lens damage but they were badly mis-collimated. Nikon also included new lens caps. Good luck with it!

Thriced. I don't know about service across the Pond but I have used Nikon service for the very same issue on an SE and it was good as new. I also damaged some binoculars by accident and they repaired them, to performance better than prior. I have sold glass from other makers due to inquiries about warranty coverage (not just second hand info). I guess you can say there's nothing "like a" Nikon :)

Thanks, appreciate your opinion.

I recently obtained a used pair of Nikon E 10x35 which were missing one objective trim ring and slightly out of collimation. Nikon Service (US) replaced the trim ring and collimated them for the grand sum of $10 +shipping. I only wish other manufacturers had similar service departments.

It seems that is service that is about as good as it gets. This one should be posted to
the sticky above about binocular warranties.

Oldbird13,

Hi there! I work as the Birding Market Specialist for Nikon, so if you have any additional questions or need some interpretation on the warranty then please let me know. The warranty will work and they have been accustomed to dealing with the soft rubber eye-cups and their cracking with the SEs.

Best,

Mike, I may have not made myself clear on my original post. I see something on my eyepiece lens that appears to look like the coating/surface has some "cracking" to it. Could be the coating is wearing because I try to take exceptional care of them. On another note, if you came into $1,500, what binocular would you buy? Thanks much! Craig.

Hey, Mike, I have an 8x30 E2 porro, and the leatherette is falling off. It (I think; bought in 2006) is still under warranty. Is there a permanent fix for this?

A search using the word "peeling" will pull up other relevant threads. I got some new old stock 8x30E IIs this summer for a 2004 price and consider myself extremely lucky, but I expect they will eventually begin to bubble.

Alexis, That tape looks like it might work for the little Nikon emblem on the Nikon LX series that covers a screw. One of mine came off and I was wondering what to put it back on with.

The question isn't, "Can I fix them?" It's, "Can Nikon fix them -- permanently?" Anything I do is likely to void the warranty.

oldbird13,

The warranty would still take care of your problem. Nikon is well aware that the SEs have had problems with the rubber eye-cups cracking so they will take care of you. It is one of only few issues with that optic. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Mike : I think the point is: THE LENS IS SCRATCHED! DOES THE NIKON WARRANTY COVER IT? Please elaborate if necessary.

As I said before, in the USA the warranty is no-fault. In other words, it covers just about everything. However, if the scratch doesn't effect performance, it might not be repaired.
