The idea is to make the field guides for every country in the world available for free as ebooks.
Guides for every country in the world are already available for download (epub format). Guides currently use
wikipedia information. However high quality bird images are lacking.

Please have a look.

Looks like a good idea assuming there's someone overseeing the project who knows their stuff, including 'local' editors, to select and edit the material. I think that a similar project to produce birding site guides would be equally valuable,
 
Had a quick scan through the UK ebook and most of the text seems to be a straight lift from Wikipedia. There is a strange mix of photos, it is most definitely not a tawny owl!
 
Out of curiosity downloaded the guide for the United States and gave it a quick view. The text seems to be accurate describing the birds but some of the photos are way off and all of the ones that were incorrect were submitted by the same individual. So John Cantelo's suggestion of someone "who knows their stuff" overseeing and editing the material would be great.
