Came across an abandoned great tit nest last Saturday evening in an extractor vent at the back of our daughters house, monitored it for 24+ hours and there was definitely no parent activity around it (or since), we managed to extract the nest from the vent and proceeded to feed the chicks (4) with food (liquidised dog food initially, meal worms, crushed up peanuts/sunflower hearts, and drops of water, we have them in an old budgie cage, they are thriving, they have nearly full plumage, constantly preening/flapping wings and generally seem pretty happy with themselves...
Obvious question , how do we prepare to release them back into the wild?, our daughter lives in a pretty rural setting with a large garden, plenty of trees and ground cover, any advice would be appreciated
Kind regards,Dave
