Nice birds Kevin, well done.
To add to the sightings of unseasonal birds, Mika found a Corncrake at s’Amarador today, photographed by Juanjo.
It’s a major rarity here.
Shame you didn’t know about it earlier Kevin, you could have called in.
Still, I’m not sure it will be going anywhere, I will be on site Tuesday and hope it sticks. The Starlings will be a wonderful diversion if the Corncrake is not showing.
Also a splendid adult male Hen Harrier there.
Mike

Hello all. Has anyone been on the GOB annual bird report page and tried to obtain a copy for Mallorca for 2017. I did this earlier in the week and gave the €5.00 donation. The reply said that I would then be provided with a link to view the report, 4 days later and it still hasn't arrived. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

Hi David.
I will speak to Steve, I’m sure it’s some kind of glitch and you will get your copy soon.
Thanks for making a donation, it’s a lot of work and we are grateful to Steve for all his devotion, but it’s well worth it, the report contains lots of useful information of arrival dates, how many pairs breed, where all the species are being seen and loads more important facts.
I hope it’s sorted soon, Mike

Mike

Thank you. The annual Birds in Northumberland book, for 2017, is also being issued in the next week or so. Together they will make for great reading over the Christmas break. It will be interesting to "compare and contrast" and seeing those birds listed that are very common in one location and comparative rarities in the other. Dunnock comes to mind!!

At S’Amarador by the "dog house" today for the Corncrake, no sign of it or the Hen Harrier, but a great place for photography.
Reed Bunting, Cirl Bunting, White Wagtail, Water Pipit, Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Black-winged Stilt, Tree Sparrow, Moustached Warbler, Gadwall, Teal, 5 Common Crane flew over, a pair of Kestrel and the usual Marsh Harrier. About 10 Red-legged Partridges flew over.

Great photos Clive.
A trip to the same place for me tonight frustratingly saw a crake fly up from the footpath as I turned the corner, I don’t know what it was but it looked good.
Disappointingly, nearly all the Starlings have departed.
Nice views of Moustached Warbler, Tree sparrow and Kevin saw the Waxbills. Green Sandpiper, Water pipit and loads of Marsh Harrier.
Two Common Crane flew over on the way home near Can Picafort.
Good to see you again Kevin.

The link to the Balearic Bird Report for 2017 published by GOB has arrived!! I've only had time for a brief look so far but what a fantastic publication. At 230 pages it includes rarities reports, a full listing of what has been seen where and when together with some beautiful photographs. It also has some interesting other bird related articles and a record of cetaceans seen around the Mediterranean. If you haven't done so yet please consider making a donation to this worthwhile organisation and obtaining your own copy. Type GOB Bird Report 2017 into google and make €5 donation. That's my Christmas reading sorted out while I plan next years visits Many thanks to Steve Nicoll and Mike Montier for getting this to me.

The 2017 report is another quality publication.
Appreciate the time & effort that everyone puts into it.
Make a 10 paypal donation every month, but there didn't seem to be an easy way to become an actual member, or did i miss something on the website.

Hi, I saw this duck at Bassa de Son Guidet last Wednesday. Can anyone help with identification? It was on its own away from the other ducks.

Jaja, I left it open because it looked like a Pochard to me but I’ve never seen one with a raised tail like that.
Thanks Maties, we had better keep looking then...

Thanks Maties. My first thoughts were Common Pochard but the tail and face markings didn't look right.

A really nice walk up to the Castillo de Santueri, Felanitx, in glorious weather. At least twenty Crag Martins engaged in aerobatics, no doubt pairing up for spring. Great to watch at very close range but getting photos is another matter.
Also Blue Rock thrush and a few Booted eagles including one very dark individual.
Back to the UK in a few days where it may not be quite so sunny.
Mike

Osprey31. I’m sure someone can help you with membership of GOB.
I too have had great difficulty.
