I am currently using the DCA to connect my G1 and 8400 to the STS80.
To make the gear more rigid, a new supporting device has just been fabricated.o:)

Wow, really nice inventon. Do you have some kind of plan/blueprint for it? How did you made aluminum camera railing?
I will have to make something similar but for angled scope.
Nice photos also.

Thx Trco.
I get no blue print for it.
The dimensions were in fact determined during the fabrication process and count on the materials available in my mini workshop.
I have a small bench top milling machine. this device was fabricated by this small machine very slowly. :king:

Excellent.....Brrrrilliant and lovely pictures.

Can you say what lens you have on the camera and which eyepiece on the scope please.
Also who makes the small black adjustable rail which is on the nylon block under the camera.

Hi Malc,
It is the 14-45mm kit lens for G1.
And the eyepiece is 30X.
The small black block is a purchased item. ~ $30.
The aluminium rail over it is a self made item.

There are some characteristics of this design.

1. Rigidity
I have tested in last two days.
This device is quite rigid.
No shutter release cable is required in good light condition.
It is good enough for taking fast moving or even flying birds.
2. Alignment
Each camera is attached to a short quick release plate.
The alignment works have been done in advance.
That is no adjustment work is required when exchange my G1 to 8400.
It takes just a few seconds.
3. Bird watching
When the camera together with the quick release plate is taking down,
the scope can be used for normal bird watching.
And it takes just a few seconds also.
4. Backpack
I want to put everything in my backpack as before.
That is the whole stuff cannot be too long.
To fulfill this requirement, the red dot sight and the camera can be
taking out from the device.
5. Red dot sight
The red dot sight is located just above the EVF of the camera.
It shortens the time to locate the birds a little bit.
6. Drop down of the camera
I had once dropped my camera down from the DCA.
To protect my camera from dropping down, I have included a locking
device in the short quick release plate.
In addition, a metal chain is used to connect the camera to the device.
7. Portrait format
Portrait format is not OK for this set up.

Thanks for the details UVW

Two more questions please

You said "The small black block is a purchased item. ~ $30."

1)What make is it please.

2)And how much vigneting do you get

Hi Malc,
1) Made of aluminium. Made in China. No brand name.
2) No vignetting from 15mm to 25mm.

Great work! After you having also a RedDot even on a straight scope I ordered also one. It arrived today and now my mount is ready. Not so nice as yours, since my self made capabilities are somehow limited, but it works.
I used a black aluminum cooling plate (from electronics) and monted it on the Swaro balance rail.

Look like the same RedDot as mine. ;)
I am not a good bird watcher, I can't find a bird through the scope without the RedDot.:cat:

Nice work uvw !
Is there any drifting on the aiming that requiring minor adjustment every time when you mount the red-dot sight on site ?

Hi Ray,
The red-dot sight already came with two knobs that can do the calibration on both horiztonal and vertical directions.
Normally, no need to redo the calibration too often.

I got the reddot sight and a cirular collar mount made up with two quick release bases. Adds a little weight but is worth it when it all works just right.
