Seatrack - The Irish Seabird Passage Project (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

'Seatrack' is the new seabird passage monitoring initiative run by BirdWatch Ireland which will work in conjunction with other projects run by BirdLife International partners in the UK, France, Spain & Portugal. The project aims to improve our knowledge of the distribution & status of Balearic Shearwaters during the non-breeding season as well as log the movements of other seabird species along the north-east Atlantic seaboard.

The project will involve the co-ordination of simultaneous seawatch sessions from different headlands across the entire country on selected target weekends between late summer & autumn. In order to achieve this we will need to enlist the help of dedicated volunteer seawatchers to record sightings this season.

If you would like to get involved in the project then please get in contact ASAP and we can send you the relevant background information, recording sheets & assign you to a site for the duration of the season.

If possible we would like to conduct a pilot survey this weekend (Sat 24th & Sun 25th July) in order to receive some feedback on the design of the project. If any of you could manage this then that would be great. The project will then initiate 'full-scale' on the weekend of 7th-8th August.

All the best,
Niall Keogh
