Pallid Harrier breeds in Spain (1 Viewer)

After a mixed Montagu'sxPallid pairing some years ago, a pair of Pallid Harriers have bred in northern Span this year. Remarkably one of the birds had rings which identified it as young from the birds that bred in the Netherlands in 2017. It remains to be seen if this is a 'one-off' or whether it presages the eventual colonisation of western Europe .....

Only seen 3 adult males, this being the best one - at Forest of Bowland.

A pair also bred in the Netherlands this year

Continuing the trend of this gradual colonisation, in the Deux-Sèvres département of France this spring a male Pallid was displaying, it attempted to mate with a female Monty’s after food offerings etc., unfortunately it was found dead in early May, probably after colliding with a vehicle.

Aye, that was present for a couple of weeks last May wasn’t it? Lovely sight in an otherwise tragically poor spot for raptors lately.

Heartbreaking when considered what it used to be like....
