This morning at the Flashes

Dave J has a good morning at the Flashes
Juv WHINCHAT in western hedge to right of hide.
3 YELLOW WAGS 2 on the deck 1 over 30 minutes later.
2 Ruff first thing, later disappeared.
4 avocet, 4 dunlin, 4 green sand, common sand.
Med Gull juv.

Dave has just texted again... another WHINCHAT to left of hide and a willow warbler.
Sadly Dave is only one on site.

At the Moors, 2+ Little Egret and a juv Med on the rails in front of the west hide. (Not the same bird as in Johns and Mikes photos).

3 juv female Ruff flew in just after 7 and spent around 10 mins circling around the flashes, but eventually landed, 2 dropped onto the 'peninsular' in front of the hide while the other landed at the back, all 3 reunited and fed on the back shore until dark.
Not long after the Ruffs, and just before a short burst of heavy rain, 4 Dunlin (all juv) flew in to join the 3 already present. They fed in the saucer for a few minutes before dissapearing, whether just roosting behind an island or simply left again is unknown. 2 juv Meds in the roost, a very clean looking bird, pale headed, jet black bill and legs, completly grey mantle, the other bird a rather scruffy looking bird, very dusky head markings, and many juv scapulars remaining, slight red/brown tinge to bill base. 6 Green Sand, 1 Common Sand, The same much the rest as John earlier

Certainly worth the effort Craig:t:

Weather looks very interesting over the next few days - the winds swings round to a south-easterly overnight with rain all day Monday, followed by two days of bright weather but with a straight easterly on Tuesday and Wednesday :eek!::t::t:

Two Ruff Just touched down briefly in front of east hide then flew off north west. Big size difference between the two suggesting Ruff + Reeve.

Little Egret, Lesser Whitethroat, Mistle Thrush and Med Gull flew over earlier.

And a record shot of two together. There were 3 in the end - they flew off over Sagebury Farm.

Moors:
GCG 2 ads + 3 chicks, Little grebe plenty of birds scattered about - I didn't do any serious counts. shoveler 4, teal 2, little egret,
water rail calling in scrape,
Med Gull juv, BHG 1500 came in from a field in the NW, close to Grafton Manor.
Sand martin c50, cettis arler one either side of east hide.

Paul C had a large flock of tits with many warblers on the causeway, possibly the same flock seen earlier on the west track , included lesser whitethroat, whitethroats and plenty of chiffs.
John L had 2 goldcrests on the east track

FLASHES:
A disappointing roost of BHG's, and for the first time in a while no Meds. It was a strange eerily quiet evening with no wind, high cloud and almost no birds calling. A juv peregrine shot through low over the lagoons, almost toying with the flocks of BHG and lapwings. Most of the ducks and waders came into the open , making counting easier. A 4th dull juvenile yellow wag landed on the 'grassy knoll' . Bringing the days total to 7. The north fields are attracting large numbers of lapwing and starling. Here they are feeding on the short mowed grass around the rotting crop, where many stock doves are gathered. At 8.20 a hobby drifted east over the sailing pool car park.
species count FLASHES
Teal 59 (same as yesterday), shoveler 5, gadwall, tufted fem and at least 2 chicks 3rd Flash. coot 16, Avocet 4, lapwing 300+, curlew 18, snipe 4, green sand 7, common sand 1 ( Jarad had 2 earlier), dunlin 4, Oystercatcher pr + juv, BHG 750, LBBG over, Hobby, peregrine, stock dove 45, green woodpecker, starling 180, YELLOW WAG 4, whitethroat,

pics from today
1 to 3 med at Moors
The last two were by Dave W (woodchat) practising with my camera :t:
