A couple Southern California (Bolsa Chica) birds (1 Viewer)

I saw the bird in the first two images early in the morning at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve on 2017-04-21. The colors make me think its Common Merganser, but the head feathers lead me to wonder if its a Red-breasted Merganser. Can anyone help me?

I saw the bird in the third image shortly before noon on the same hike. I'm guessing its a Western Kingbird, but I'm not sure. Can someone confirm (or correct) me?

Thanks in advance for you help.
