Help with Botswana birds! (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

Just got back from a trip to the Okavango Delta and have some images of birds that I'd like some help on identifying. These images were taken on 12 September, 2106 near the community camping area in Khwai, Botswana. I can't decide if it is a White-browed sparrow-weaver or a Yellow-throated petronia? in the second and third images the bird(s) in question are directly in the center and the bird on the extreme left. Thanks in advance!

Please take this for what it is worth... which ain't too much for LBJs from Africa. But in comparing photos of the 2 mentioned bird, I do not think it resembles a White-browed Sparrow Weaver too much. Based on the back pattern alone, I think that the Yellow-fronted Petronia is a better choice of those 2.

Again this is really only a guess on my part, so wait for those that have first hand experience with these guys.

Bird in question is a Yellow-throated Petronia. Definitely not a White-browed Sparrow-Weaver

Hope you had a good trip, Botswana is my favourite!
