Is the following enough to start sound recording? (1 Viewer)

That should be an excellent rig to start recording bird sounds. You'll probably want to specify the Stereo 3.5mm mini-jack (the mono is fine, you just get to record on one channel only that way). You may want to get a pair of closed headphones to monitor what you are recording. It is easier to aim a shotgun mic when what you hear is mainly through the recording path, which isn't always the case with earbuds, but give it a go with the earbuds first.

I used a NH700 for some time. It defaults to AGC on startup and is is a pain to set into manual record level mode, involving about seven keypresses. So you run the machine is record-pause most of the time when in the field waiting for something record-worthy, then toggling the pause control to record (you need to see the LCD to confirm record state). Although that isn't ergonomically ideal, the NH700 will give you great results with the excellent ME 66 which has a high output and low noise.

You need a Windows machine to transfer sounds from a HiMD to a computer digitally, using Sony's software. There is some anecdotal evidence that you should avoid editing in the field (deleting duff takes etc) with HiMD for this program to transfer recordings properly. Similarly, leave the computer alone during a transfer from the HiMD (the transfer is about 5-10x faster than real time).
