In out local paper there's a 2nd hand "Manfrotto" tripod on offer for 15 of your English squids.

If it is what it says it is... can I possibly go wrong?????

Not as many as that, Peter! Turns out it's a monopod, and it's mine if I want it...

Still a bargain???

Proceed with EXTREME caution . . . it may well turn out to be stolen. 'Fences' often don't know the true value of items they get to sell on, and often quote ridiculously low prices like this

Thanks Michael,

Sounds pretty genuine (as much as you tell of course) - gonna check it out in the morning and decide. The fact that its a monopod suggests it's a little less "too good to be true".

Appreciate the warning, nonetheless.

Thanks to you also, Kevin.

I was planning on taking my camera and scope - and providing it's in pretty reasonable nick, I think I'll take the plunge. I HATE lugging the tripod!!!

Do not tell them anything about where you live or go birding, make them think you live a long way from where you are going to view it. They may be dodgy, if they turn out to be nice folk then you haven't lost anything giving out a falsehood.

Hi jeff,

Yes I noticed the "junior" was in the £20s - so might not be that much of a snip.

Thanks for the heads up Andrew - good point, which I'll bear in mind.
