Dear Colleagues, I'm not a seasoned writer like our friend Brock, but the delight of the eyes from time to time I'll put some pictures of my favorite models...

Happy bird watching,

Hello Bob,

yes, stands with me a few years ...

I see that you own Ultravid BL 8x.
How do you feel comfortable observation in the context of the eyecups?

Hi Mnich.

Yes. I have an 8x42 Ultravid BL.

I like its eye cups very much and find them very comfortable.

I brace binoculars against my brow ridge just under my eye brows when I use them.

Zeiss 8x30

Hi members, i have recently bought an old pair of Zeiss Deltrintem 8x30's s/n 1710199 and after looking at endless internet sites can't find out why these have Japanese markings above the 'Carl Zeiss' logo. Any ideas?

The glass dates from about 1935 (see the superb Peter Abrahams web site link here: http://www.europa.com/~telscope/zeissbin.txt )
At that time there was a lively exchange in optics between Japan and Germany. Zeiss even sent technicians to Japan to help jumpstart their domestic production. Your glass may have been a gift item or a demo unit.

Just to confuse things further, there was subsequently production of Zeiss knockoffs in Japan, not sure if under license, but those usually had 6 digit serial numbers afaik.

Zeiss with Jap markings?

Have managed to email pics to flagorio, perhaps he can tell me a little more. I don't think my link is working on here, sorry. I will try again as soon as i can. Best regards Tony

I have downloaded the pictures Tony sent me to my Flickr page. A translation of the markings would be most interesting. Here are Tony's pictures:
