I understand (from Art & Science of Butterfly Photography - Wm Folsom) that a telephoto lens on a tripod mounted camera can produce good results.
I shall be using a 45-200mm lens on the Panasonic Lumix GF1 camera.
Can anyone comment based on practical experience?

I mostly used a 100mm macro lens, but also any of several telephoto lenes I have for my SLR's depending on how I want to frame the lep or how much detail I'm after. IOW, for shots with background to show plants as well or on leps that won't let me approach close enough one of the tele's gets put on; for extreme close ups with sharp detail the macro. FWIW
