Hi guys going to stay on Tory island for a couple of nights at the end of august would very much appreciate info on place to stay. Also would like a bit of info on places to go and what birds to expect. Also is end of august to late for corncrake any info is gratefully accepted as never been, but heard so many great things about this island. Thanks in advance John

Only 7-8 calling corncrake on Tory this year. Was 24 only a few seasons ago. Corncrakes, with the bad weather, have more or less finished calling now. One was calling from beside my farm on Friday night though. You might see a few hopefully but you wont hear any.

There are links to accommodation and services at the bottom of the page including the hotel, hostel and BBs. Most of the birds seen so far this year are in accounts on the blog. If you go back a couple of pages on the Donegal patch page on bird forum you can download last years Tory Island Bird report which will give you an indication of what your likely to see. http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=107771&page=10 post 233

I had Barred Warbler a couple of years ago in late august. For your best chance of seeing a corncrake, stake out the nettle patches at the back of west town (behing the houses visable from the harbour(just walk between the houses till you see the open fields facing north. You might see one running between cover or on the stone wall but they are not guaranteed. Best of luck. If you could make a note of any migrants you see or counts of birds you might post them here or send them to me at [email protected] so I can include them in this years report.

Regards

Peter
