A bright start this morning, but there was a lot of black ice around. I had to hold onto railings to stop myself falling over. I saw several pedestrians fall as well as two cyclists.

Oh, and we've not had any snow yet this month in Glasgow. There's been some on the higher ground around the country, but none in the city. Looking at the forecast, it's unlikely we'll have any snow for the entire month. I don't know if we'd had snow-free Januarys before, but I can't remember a January when we didn't have some snow.

I appreciate your relief, here we have had too much of the stuff recently leading to flooded roads and railways. however, it has stopped at last, bright and fine with prospect of below freezing tonight.

Thumbs up Messages in the Sky

Just thought I'd post this sunrise taken by Rose Fletcher (I'm thinking this might be Bird Forum Rose Fletcher?) at the start of the year. Rose says, "Those colours are real, you're not seeing a photoshop job."

Even for the hard of hearing I think it speaks volumes when you see something like this is the sky given the way this country has been treated, and with what is happening here ........

In Rose's own words:
"The sun rising behind all that smoke seems to be recalling the era when this country was truly loved and respected."

A still, grey, January day.
A mist kisses the damp grass of the meadows.
The world holds its breath, waits, for something to happen.
The cows simply stand there and munch.

I took me dog out in the rain today,
but he began to howl,
so I brought him back
and rubbed him down
with a great big fluffy towel.
He liked that.

I like using this website from the winter solstice on because you see the days gradually getting longer. This link is for Glasgow but you can put in your own location. https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/glasgow

The
rain
at
last
stopped
falling.
The sun came out, began to shine. A brief respite...
The
rain
again
began
to
fall.
