Hi everyone,

Here's a list of the breeding succeses of White Storks in one particular nest in Northern Germany.

The nest is situated on top of a purpose-built concrete pole in the large garden of a farmhouse in Northern Germany. A wetland nature reserve is nearby.

The nest was installed in 2001, and receives some human maintenance each year before the storks arrive.

(The list was compiled by the owners of the farmhouse.)

2001: 3 hatchlings, 3 fledged
2002: 2 hatchlings, 0 fledged - two males fighting over the nest
2003: 5 hatchlings, 3 fledged
2004: 3 hatchlings, 1 fledged
2005: 4 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2006: 2 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2007: 2 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2008: 2 hatchlings, 0 fledged - much rain, cold weather, froze to death
2009: 1 hatchlings, 1 fledged
2010: 3 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2011: 3 hatchlings, 3 fledged
2012: 3 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2013: 2 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2014: 5 hatchlings, 3 fledged
2015: 2 hatchlings, 0 fledged - ???
2016: 2 hatchlings, 1 fledged
2017: 3 hatchlings, 2 fledged
2018: 3 hatchlings, 3 fledged

The success rate: 64% of the hatchlings succcessfully fledged, or 1.8 per year.

Regards,

Henning
