Well that went down well.

I'm sorry Andy, I've every intention of putting some up but I've had to work a fair bit this week.

Edit: five to be going on with, all British and all been on bits of BF before, so I still had the resized versions. Hope they are enjoyable - they all were for me...

Cheers

John

Oleander Hawk-moth (twitched at Dungeness and absolutely worth the trip!)
Merveille du Jour (back garden, John a bit shouty with delight)
Dark Crimson Underwing (back garden, John a LOT shouty with delight)
Lime Hawk-moth (back garden, first hawk-moth this year, handsome beast)
Clifden Nonpareil (mist-netting with Surrey Bat Group just Hampshire side of the Surrey/Hants border: best bat of the night was a moth!)

What is the extreme right hand butterfly species please Andy? I recall seeing something very similar in Kerala on damp forest edges but it was moth like. Thanks

A Caligo sp Pat, one of the Owl Butterflies in Costa Rica, not certain of specific ID.

The others are from Laos, there was temple with whitewashed walls which was foodlit at night and in the day, it was just smothered in moths.

Here are a few more from the same place, I've done my best to ID them with very limited resources.

Can't compete with John's stuff fro the UK, a couple of belters there, here's a few habitat specialists from Russia, some of which are found in the UK but are uncommon or rare.

First is Dotted Footman.

A few more from Russia.

Black-veined Moth, if my info is current, is only known from a few Kentish sites in the UK.

Yes: at least one is a downland site. I went there years ago after orchids (don't ask me which, it was Clare's idea) and we had a whole hillside covered in Black-veined Moths. Amazing.

I've fallen over Clouded Buff on heathland in the New Forest a couple of times but I've also trapped it in the garden, so maybe it is quite well spread in the South? Some of those pics are corkers, Andy. Kentish Glory for a start!

Cheers

John

I can't compete for exotics, but I do have a Cryptic Wood White. Probably the hardest species to find that I've seen without needing to go on an organised walk or tour. And seen in the UK via public transport, too.

Some stunning photos on here! Guess the ones I'm most envious of are those that I'm familiar with but haven't encountered rather than the very exotic ones, glorious though they are.

So Andy's Kentish Glory & Orache Moth are high on my wish list & though they've increased to an amazing degree over the last couple of years, Clifden from John & Dark Crimson Underwing.

I see a few Clouded Buff each year on both heath & chalk downland in Surrey- great moths.

Came to our moth light at home, we lived near wet, sandy heath. A habitat I've never really been in before, being from Notts, there was also peat bog on site, quite a unique place for me.

We've also had Waved Black and Ringed Carpet which were found in the house.

Here are a few of my favourite butterfly shots from Russia.

A few more from Russia, I really miss being able to walk there as I did, every single day.

Lovely shots Andy. I've seen many of the recent selections. Have managed Camberwell Beauty in 3 continents but none in the UK yet! My only Scarce Fritillary was a very obliging one in Estonia.

I was hoping for a few more contributors though.

I have seen Camberwell in the UK (Waxham) but I only have wet film photos of it, unfortunately. I too was hoping some of our world travellers would put up some of their pictures.

Thanks ,
I was hoping for a few more contributors though.

Birdforum in general seems to have dwindled into a fairly small number of contributors, the same names on every thread.

It all gets a bit predicable. Some variation of the saying "never meet your heroes because they are sure to disappoint"! Seems to come into play!
