I stumbled along this tiny little wader today and whilst I'm pretty certain of my identification, I was thinking that his bill is very chunky at the base. Is this always the case in this species as the picture in the Collins guide does not show this very well at all.

Agree with Broad-billed, and a juvenile on plumage. The head pattern, bill shape, yellow-green legs etc all add up to make this species quite distinctive.
