Broad-billed Sandpiper in Flight? Aus (1 Viewer)

G'day

I was participating in a wader count in Brisbane today. The party had previously identified 5 Broad-billed Sandpipers at a site 100 metres away when I photographed a smallish wader in flight [see attached].

I believe the first picture shows that it has the right bill shape for a BBS, there is the hint of a split supercilium and all three photos show the dark leading edge to the upper wing.

A couple of questions:

Do the toes of BBS normally project beyond the tail in flight?
Do BBS have predominantly white tails? Only the central part of this bird's tail appears to be dark.
Is this bird starting to colour up into breeding plumage?

Regards, Laurie.
