Northern Winter Moth or Winter Moth ? (1 Viewer)

The more I look at this, the more I get confused !

Any input greatly accepted !

Photo's 2 and 3 with a 'Normal' looking Winter Moth

First impression is Winter Moth. Northern Winter Moth is somewhat larger and I can't detect any significant difference in size from Photo 2.

However, in terms of shape and colour it's not bad for Northern Winter.

I had a similar one a few weeks ago and couldn't safely assign it to either species.

Hi Dave,
Many thanks for your thoughts.

The forewing length on this moth is 14mm which is at the lowest end of the scale given for Northern Winter Moth.

A photo of one on the Suffolk Moths site, looks to be smaller than the Winter Moth it is photographed with !
