Hairy or Downy woodpeckers

When together, not very often, the differences can be seen. But one of these away in the distance, you can't see if it is the little one or the bigger Hairy. Most know about the beak being the better ID, so here you can see them. The hairy's beak about the size of its head, the downy's half the size of its head.

I'm going with Hairy for the one on the left and Downy for the one on the right.

Ditto to Hairy left, Downy right. Definitely not a Merlin

Really excellent comparison! Same branch and similar branch thickness in both photos confirms the significant size difference between the two, and of course the bill length.
