188. Indigo Bunting

Seen June 14, 2009:

189. Eastern Towhee

It's strange to think I saw both Alder and Willow Flycatchers on the same day, just in two different conservation areas! I am used to the Alder Flycatcher's call in some of the swampy areas I visit, but when I heard the sneezy "Fitz-bew" I knew I had something different!

Too bad the sun hadn't been shining on Sunday when I saw the tanager...it was a beautiful brilliant red male, perched on a branch with no leaves.

My year list is badly out of date, mostly because I've been focusing on putting up my wildlife photos on Pbase for the last two and half months. I now have over 1,000 images in my galleries, and there are still more to come. You can view images of birds (of course!), reptiles, amphibians, mammals, butterflies, odonates, insects, spiders atmospheric phenomena, birding trips and much more...you can locate my galleries by clicking the link in my signature. Now for the resumption of my year list:

Seen November 15, 2009:

213. Long-eared Owl
214. Short-eared Owl

A trip to Amherst Island added two more owls to my year list. Too bad neither species was cooperative for taking photos!

(I can't believe we'll be starting our year lists all over again in just one month!)

Seen December 28, 2009:

215. Thayer's Gull

Seen at the local dump with a large number of gulls, but too far away to photograph. Much thanks to an experienced local birder for picking him out!
