tips from an Idaho birder please!

Hi
I will be in Twin Falls 8th to 12th September and would value some tips from a local birder!

I want to see Calliope hummingbird but have been told it is unlikely
is there anywhere that may still have any present?
Also , I want to see Varied Thrush ; can someone recommend somewhere to go for this stunning bird?

I will have one free day to explore the Twin Falls area ; I enjoy woodland birds and would appreciate tips on any hotspots
thanks

Hi Annikins,

I'm not sure this is the best spot to get replies. I'm in Nampa, ID which is about 2 hours from Twin Falls.

Check out the Idaho Birding Trail:
https://idfg.idaho.gov/ifwis/ibt/pub.aspx?id=southwest

If you are on facebook join Idaho Birding: https://www.facebook.com/groups/509989899045635
/?ref=bookmarks

Lots of super nice people that will give you advice as to where to go.

If you don't use ebird - I highly suggest it. lots of useful information. You can search for Calliopes or whatever else you might be looking for. http://ebird.org/content/ebird/

Also a Yahoo group: Idaho Birders Linked electronically (IBLE)

And: idahobirds.net

I think your best bets are the facebook page and IBLE. I don't bird regularly in the Twin Falls area so I don't know best where to send you.

Hope you have a great trip!

Hello

Not an Idaho birder, but a former Oregon one!..I saw Varied thrush when i lived in Portland and it is an amazing bird.
The Idaho Birding trail is a good site, full with information. For what I am seeing here, the best chances to see the Varied thrush are in the North part of the state, with a few sites in the southwest portion, always West of Twin Falls..Those sites along the Snake river looking so exciting!!!!!!
good luck and enjoy the trip

M
