Three from that genus in Buenaventure, Yellow-throated, Ashy-throated, and common. There is no white behind the eye.

What's with the pale eye, age, race?

It is a very variable species, with southern races having pale eyes and lacking the white post-ocular spot of northern birds. Will probably end up split into several species.

The birds in SW Ecuador are different to those in the rest of the country but are not yet named as a subspecies.
