We hired skilled bird Guide, Jose Luis Pushaina, for a quick 2 day tour from Palomino, Colombia to El Dorado Nature Reserve. This entails early morning pickup Feb 4 2021 in Palomino, a stop at Reserva Miramar for lowland forest birds and supporting a local woman-run reserve, birding on the way through Minca to El Dorado. El Dorado is quite pricey at a little over $300/night double occupancy, meals included, but this is the only way to access the higher elevations in the Santa Marta mountains for endemic specialties and high altitude species. Early AM Feb 5 we will drive to the Cuchilla San Lorenzo Ridge to catch the amazing sunrise over the mountains with views of glaciated peaks and the Caribbean sea PLUS BIRDS! Back to the lodge for lunch and guided birding in the area.
I'm especially interested in seeing Macaws, parrots, Tanagers, Toucans and the more colorful birds. Lifelisting is secondary. We negotiated a good price and interested in adding a couple folks to reduce the price/person and make it more worth his while.
