Value Calculation (1 Viewer)

I see value as initial cost divided by hours used

$10 binocular used one hour and disguarded = 10/1 = $10 hour

$6400 Nikon WX used one hour per day x 20 years
$6400/20x365 = $o.88 dollars hour

just depends on usage

... Don't forget they'll have considerable resale value also, even after 20 years. (I use this calculation to rationalize long-term ownership of alpha binos myself.)

Where's the resale value if you take them to the grave, clutched firmly in your hands?

From wishing to reality, in 2004 I got a fujinon MT 25x150 (astro use) and sold it a few years ago.
I consider it good value for less than one dollar a day to have the beasts available over the years.

I might have gone to the grave clutching it, but we both would not fit.
