What's your favourite birding website? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm in the process of compiling this year's selection of birding websites for the 2005 Birdwatcher's Yearbook and I'm looking for your recommendations. I've got plenty of sites lined up but there is always something new or different out there that is worth bringing to a wider audience

To start with, here's what I don't want - they will all come in subsequent years

Anything to do with individual bird clubs or 'where to watch' sites so no West Midlands Bird Club or the best places to go birding in Texas please.

What I am looking for is any other aspect of birding or ornithology such as:-

bird biology
migration
individual species or family sites eg Eagles in Ireland or penguins of the world
birds and gardening/music/folklore/stamp collecting
web cams
bird sounds
art
photography
digiscoping
trivia quizzes
top ID sites etc

Anything at all that you have come across, no matter how obscure or esoteric, that you want to pass on to the rest of us will be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Gordon

Although still a great sight, not quite as good as when James Smith was there.

Lets face it; the birds of Israel, along with the Israeli conservation bodies, need all the help we can give them during these troubled times.

Israel in spring and autumn is just 'magic' and trouble free in Eilat.

What do you think is wrong with it?
The main gripe is that it is impossible to enter data on-line because they're using an inaccurate location program - I have to enter my location & county to upload any data, but when I do, I get an error message saying they don't match, and can't proceed any further.

I'm not very familiar with this site but it looks interesting

for masses of ornithology links

for lots of other interesting links--in fact if you give this URL your job is virtually done!

Another very useful site which allows you to read the latest postings on dozens of newsgroups including ukbirdnet

I remember being fascinated by a site I found about the birds that occurred in England during the middle ages. But I cannot immediately locate the URL. I'll add it later if I do.
Good luck
Ken

Later: Here it is: The Ornithology of Anglo-Saxon England
It's only a short article but has some intriguing stuff in it... such as the statement that the bones of pygmy cormorants were found in a medieval site in England.
