For Water Carpet, Chirs Manley says: 'Very similar to Devon Carpet, but larger, with inner edge of main forewing band double-notched at costa'.

The costa is at the wing-tip (!?) but what is the double-notch?

Hi Joe
Yours is a Water Carpet I think. The double notch can be seen here in a good comparison image:

Water Carpet shows an obvious interruption (a notch) in the line from the tip of the wing then another smaller one higher up but Devon Carpet (much rarer species) has a much smoother curved line with only one modest 'notch'.

Hope that helps
Andy

Phew, I was losing heart a bit because I had a string of moths that left me scratching my head.

Thanks, Andy, for clearing that one up :t:
