Thanks all for confirming my suspected Parula and IDing my first ever Veery yesterday!

Nobody had a suggestion for this head shot in that round, though, so I've made another stab at IDing it myself with the one field guide I have, and will now try to confirm or correct with you folks. From the bill shape, I've been thinking maybe a vireo rather than a warbler ...? And the only vireo I can get to fit with what markings are visible in this shot is the Yellow-throated. Could that be right? The bill seems a bit small for Yellow-throated, but perhaps that's to do with the light and angle? Or ... if I'm totally wrong, does correcting my error set anyone on a better track?

Looks like one of the Empidonax flycatchers to me. I would rather go no further, but maybe Acadian?

Yeah, agree a vireo or warbler is not likely with that bill, probably Empidonax sp. is the best you can hope for with that photo.

I wouldn't rule Vireo out but mostly because it's such a bizarre angle it's hard to get a read on the bill.

My guess is one of the shorter billed flycatchers (so not Acadian) but the angle is tricky.

I'm thinking vireo, and the go-to one in Cape May in Sept. (IMO) is white-eyed.

Definitely not a vireo IMO -- pretty obviously lacking any of the facial patterns of any of them. Empid all the way, just not identifiable to species from this shot.
