American Wigeon (1 Viewer)

I have spent a lovely afternoon trying to find an American Wigeon reported to be with a group of Wigeon near to my home on Shetland. After a short while scanning a likely group on the loch I was delighted to find it! Quite distinctive once you've spotted it.

My question is this - having looked up the bird on Opus - is this really a vagrant or an escapee? It seems to be a long way from 'home'.

Any thoughts?

Julie
