Planning on a trip to Florida this fall and would like to see wood storks.

Where are the best places to look?

Wood Storks are a common and widespread species in the state. Depending on where you plan to spend most of your trip, Everglades National Park (Anhinga Trail and Paurotis Pond) in Miami-Dade county, Green Cay Wetlands in Palm Beach county, and Viera Wetlands in Brevard county are all good. I often even see them from the Florida Turnpike!

Add in Wakodahatchee Wetlands, right next to Green Cay - the Woodies have been nesting there the past two years in good numbers (though they won't be nesting there by November - too early)...it's still a park they're familiar with and I usually see them there too.

If you're headed over to the southwest coast on your trip, Corkscrew Swamp is another good spot to see them. And as Carlos mentioned, often just by any canal or body of water you may see some - by the Turnpike, on the FAU campus, small city parks with a lake or canal...

You should have pretty good luck finding a wood stork somewhere in the area in November.

If you are passing through Fort Myers there's a lake at the intersection of Michael G Rippe Parkway and Ben C. Pratt where they are there year round, also home to spoonbills and white pelicans.

I always see them at Lake Woodruffe NWR in Nov. as well as at Merritt Island NWR.

In my area wood storks are found daily.

Here are some locations.
-Big Talbot Island Park
-Fort Clinch
-Egans Creek off Atlantic Ave Amelia Island
-Fort George
-Huguenot Beach
