Now that the Digiscope calculator website is down for some time already, I have made a spreadsheet to calculate the distance to the bird, from the photograph. If you are interested, it can be downloaded from this page, bottom, left side.
 
35 mm equivalent

Was looking at your 35mm equivalent tele length calc and would like to know if I've got this right for my set-up.

30 (Swaro STX/95 mag) x 30 (TLS-APO focal length) x 2.7 (Nikon V3 crop factor) = 2430 35mm equivalent

If that's correct, it's quite a bit more than I thought.

Thanks again. That actually puts things in better perspective in my head. My brain was trying to compare apples to oranges when it should have been apples to grapefruits.
