Hello ---
originally --wanted to attach a few images of bird fotos I have stored
over 20 years --in digital format --

unfortunately ---the pixel /detail is way too high --
minimum 3 -4 MB ,s----NOT allowed on this forum I assume?
so I cannot post ---
(tried for years --to downsize these images --using very complex long winded
foto bucket methods ----)
all failed ---no idea what codes/cut & paste /etc really entail --
got all messed up -complicated ---

As I live in the bush ----I will have to find a PC guru to downsize for me -
apologies-----even the paintings are way too large --7 MB.,s each foto

regards-
birdart

Hi birdart

I've moved your post to the Computer forum and subscribed you to the thread so you get notified of any replies. This should help you to find it easily.

What computer operating system do you have - is it Windows 7, 8.1, 10 etc.... or a Mac?

You should be able to right click on the picture and select "Re-size" (Win7) or "Edit" (Win8.1) from the drop down list. If it's Edit, a supplied Windows programme (Paint) will open. Click on Image, then Re-size, then I type in 900* in the highlighted "Width" box. Save As.... and it's done.

*You can go higher - to 1024 px, but that's too big for my laptop screen.

If you have Photoshop, the method is very much the same I think - Image>Resize.

If you have a different operating system, or a favourite photo processing programme, hopefully someone else will pop in to advise you, if you let us know what you have.

I hope this helps you.

Downsizing fotos

Thankyou Delia ---appreciate the advice --

but I have tried a hundred times with foto bucket ---to upload images
made smaller than 4 MB ,S
Many forums reject my technical fotos ---if they are bigger than 600 KB <s

OK --- will try your method -----
and click on above picture icon--er not seen ?
ok lets try paperclip icon above --
ok --JPEG images ==max 475 KB ,s ?
I have a hundred thousand fotos of pro -quality ---but
nope --cannot see a picture to click on --forgive me --
no idea of how to use your system --
my PC uses windows 8.1-
but downsizing needs a sharp fella-- to figure out all the photobucket dozens of moves /clicks

most forums --have a simple "attach file " box ---max 4 MB ---bang --your foto file pops up
--attached in 20 seconds ---done! EASY ---
but others are very strict ---like this one --my Canon eos fotos are set min pix size --but still too big !
will keep trying =-thanks anyway

codecs /__fotobucket is scary ---nothing happens ---

got one --500 kb .s --JPEG ?
will search for others --
Don't understand all the "valid file extensions"--so many --PC jargon -makes no sense
but clicking on MANAGE ATTACHMENTS ---- that's the magic button !
NOW to preview it ? cannot find it !----now it appears --ok --got it
now --to downsize the rest ---oh dear --mission improbable !

Oh well done Birdart.

In your post #3 you had confused yourself really. You had to have already re-sized the image before trying to upload it LOL.

Don't worry about all the file extensions. Just stick to .jpg.

The first one is the hardest.... now you just have to remember what you did!!;)

We're always here to help, so don't panic.

Your method is simply amazing ---thankyou Delia (Highlanders to the rescue !)
practised downsizing hundreds of photos --all day yesterday ---
finally sunk in to my thick ancient skull --no nasty photobucket required! Yahoo-

simply right-click on any 5MB foto --
I noticed "edit"---so -curiously clicked---found a very elaborate scary 'paint /color file app--?
--panicked --until i studied it carefully ----& VOILA! --Saw a " RESIZE" icon--?downsize? try ?not sure?
--amazing ---your pixel choice advice /description --appeared!
knocked the pixels down from 5740 -----to 1200--
saved to pictures file ---huh ?---
Mindboggling !! -now the fotos are 300 -500 Kilobytes!!--whilst maintaining the original foto next to the resized
image ---all filed neatly --
practised over & over --parrot learns by repetition --
wonderful --small victory ---
most grateful --now i can at least try to help others --to view birdlife in the Congo / Zambia/ Malawi /Botswana ---from a variety of hides --
without travelling across Africa --no passport required
( if anyone is interested --?)

down-sized some old fotos

A few fotos from a makeshift-tree hide ---
Central Africa --analog lens --adapted to Canon eos --

4 fotos --
