Hi all

Excuse the 'silly' question.

Yesterday there was a reported Canvasback at Sonning Eye GP well some reports are of 3 birds. Todays reports show Aythya sp./hybrid.

Can someone explain the difference please keep it simple as I am relitivley new to birding

Thanks

FrOsty, a couple of sites for reading, which may give you an insight into the selected hybrids:-

Basically, two breeds of duck interbreeding as one.

If these birds are hybrids, what is their parentage, (I have not seen any photo's yet).

There's a couple of my photos on Surfbirds. To all intents and purposes they looked like Canvasbacks but with a pale band across the bill (maybe suggesting Pochard parentage).
