Hi,

I took these at the said location and time.

Poor quality of photos due to distance, moving boat and thermal distortions.

But is it possible to nail down the species?

3 species are possible: Little, Indian and Great.

My gut feeling is that the ones in 1 are Indian, the ones in 2 are Great.

What do you think? Is there enough evidence for identification?

Thanks in advance,
Howard

I ran pic 1 through Merlin app and it suggested Indian (having looked at the pics on the app, I agree that the bill length looks more like Indian than Little, and not at all like Great), so I think you may be correct.

Head markings (white border)on at least one of the birds in 2 looks good for Great.
