I would appreciate any help with the ID of this large tree which is comparable in size to one or two Oaks near by.

Looks OK for Small-leaved Lime Tilia cordata. For confirmation, can you post a close-up pic of the underside of a leaf, please.

Thanks! Agree with Common Lime T. x europaea (hybrid T. cordata x T. platyphyllos) - the hair tufts in the vein axils are whitish (orange tufts in T. cordata; dispersed white hairs in T. platyphyllos).
