It does not fit (1 Viewer)

The eyecup on almost all binoculars are not compatible with my face. I have deep set eyes with an IPD of 59-61. Before I never cared because I mostly played around with cheap binoculars and it didn't matter.

But now I am retired and want to throw down some bucks on a good pair. Most of the full size ones with the fat eyecup do not work for more than a few minutes before becoming uncomfortable. The resting it on the eyebrows does not work for me. I don't want to use my fingers as a spacer or float anything out in front of my eyes. I wear eyeglasses but do not like them on for binocular use.

I need something that will fit my eye sockets and not crush my nose. 30mm-45mm, 7,8, or 10x. I will consider anything at this point. I have a Nikon 8x32se and it has to go. The 10x35EII does work the best so far.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I don't know if I can be helped. I am thinking of trying a Swarovski habicht 7x42 or 10x40 as those eyecup might work for me. Also are the eyecups on the Kowa Genesis 8x33 smaller than the ones on their 8.5 and 10.5 x44 Genesis. Thanks.

Hi Dereck,
It would be best to try a lot of different binoculars in a specialist optics store.
Nobody can really say which will suit best.

Regards,
B.

I believe that Swaro SV/FP 8x32 might work for you, the diameter of the eyecups is about 38mm (from memory). The eyecups of Kowa 8x33 are definitely larger.

I measured the diameter of the Swaro's eyecups: 37-38mm indeed. Most binos, 30mm and larger, have larger eyecups with a diam of more than 40mm.

Thanks folks. This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I am going to somehow get my hand on a pair of Swarovski 8x32's to try.

Hi Dereck

While you are trying out new binos try Meopta's B1 32mm, their eyecups are 35mm in diameter.

I have the same issue.

I think all the small binos will work for a small IPD, for the 42's forget about Swarovski and go for Leica or Zeiss.

I have very deep set eyes with a pronounced brow and narrow 56mm IPD. Like you, I have major issues with various eyepiece/cup designs.

I just measured my Kowa Genesis 8x33 to have an eyecup diameter of 42mm. No doubt about it, they are chunky, but they do have a nice round tapering to about 35mm at the face. I find them to be fairly comfortable. As is typical for me, I set the eyecups almost all the way in. I have them at the first out position which is only about 2mm from flush with the eyepiece lens.

I have no experience with the Habicht, but based on eye relief specs and visuals of the eyecups I think they are doomed for faces like ours. Traditional porros designs are really tough.

It might be worthwhile to try some high end compacts like the Zeiss 8x25 or some the 8x30 options like Monarch HG, Maven, or Swaro CL.

Perhaps they don't have the same performance as their peers at the pricepoint, but the Leica UV+ 8x32 fit very nice.

I use a 42mm Ultravid HD and can space out the barrels barely, by about 1mm if I want to. I can't use Swaro's 42mm binos, but Zeiss works. 2 out of 3 isn't bad :)

I have deep set eyes and a large nose bridge. Zeiss Conquests work great for me, as do Bushnell Legend M and Engage. Also Swaro eyecups work very well too.

18000bph you may be onto something. I measured my eye socket and it is only 36mm. At this point I think the only alpha that would fit would be the Swarovski cl 8x30 b and I could not adjust to the diopler adjustment.

I think I will roll the dice sell the SE and EII and try the Genesis 8x33. So much for my dream of owning 3 or 4 alpha binoculars. Oh well just saved about 10 grand.
