Attached is the birding group from this morning , the fellow in the dark coat and green pants is Irish guide Terry Carruthers. We were actually at a landfill here which is why there is alot of garbage around but it was productive for raptors & gulls .My excuse for not being in the photo is that I took the picture !

Been very busy at work lately with alot of overtime and not many oppourtunities for a solid bird outing. However I have done a few one-hour stops at local patches in mostly wetland and semi-open habitat this weekend and last weekend.Highlights include Chipping Sparrow,Yellow Warbler, Ringed Kingfisher, Double-crested Cormrant, Killdeer, Eastern Kingbird, Eastren Wood-Pewee ,Egyptian Goose , Northern Rough-winged Swallow and only one new Year Bird - Least Sandpiper.

I also went with another birder to find a local colony of Monk Parakeets about 20 min north of our town .We missed them but we did locacte the stick nest they have built (pictured). I was also baffled by a dusk call note that couldnt identify , It drove me crazy !!

356 Least Sandpiper

The past few weeks I have been able to take half-hour birding breaks at work revealing alot of Warbler migration activity . Recent sightings include Black-throated Green Warbler , Common Yellowthroat , Black and White Warbler , Yellow Warbler , American Redstart , Hairy Woodpecker and one fine addition to the yearlist :

389. Blackburnian Warbler

Rutgers Ecological Preserve at lunchtime yeilded a life bird that I have been long been looking for . The sunny day and conspicuous perch gave me great views of this beauty . Unfortunately my camera is in repair (I dropped it !) so no pics for a while. My goal is 400 year birds , considering this is 10 birds away If I don't get it I should probably quit birding and take up fishing ...

390. Blue-headed Vireo !

Birding the Ecological Preserve in the past week getting late Warblers : Yellow-rumped and Common Yellowthroat . Some new winter Sparrows : White-throated , Field and Chippings moving through . Cedar Waxwings and Northern Flicker are around . One new Yearbird in the mix -

391 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
