I thought I would post this out of interest and figured this would be about the best place, but hoping plenty of those weird binoworld folk see it too, since they are always talking about this lens/mirror coating or that .......... (best Crocodile Dundee voice) that's not a mirror - this is a mirror! o:)

This is the 5th of 7, 8.4m diameter separate mirrors that will go to make up the 24.5m (80ft) primary mirror of the GMT. Surface finish tolerance of 20nm -- which is something like the thickness of a credit card in the middle of 25 football pitches !!!

When the 7 are finished and put together ~2025, it will have 10 times the resolving power of the Hubble Telescope.
