Interesting behavior of woodpecker. (1 Viewer)

I had a Golden-fronted Woodpecker pay a visit this morning and put on quite a show. When I first walked out with my first cup of coffee this morning, he was on my hummingbird feeder drinking the nectar. He left for a minute or two, then returned to the suet feeder to feed. That is when he spotted the Northern Mockingbird feeding on an apple I had put out. (Which I thought only ate insects up until I recently observed differently!)
Anyway, the woodpecker flew over and ran the mockingbird off the apple and he started eating the apple!
Not something I see every morning anyway!
Not very good pictures because it was cloudy and very low light.

Those Golden-fronted are beautiful birds. Red-Bellied often take mulberries. those close to ripening here.
Already have a banana peel out, to attract flies for hummers. That's about as much as neighbors will tolerate.

Quite interesting. It sounds like your Golden-fronted was sampling everything on the buffet! Does he regularly appear at one of the items?

No Gretchen, that was the only time I have seen him here. I had a Ladder-back that would visit earlier in the year but haven't seen him in a while either.
