Swarovski ATS 80 (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I would like to know if there is any difference between "Swarovski ATS 80 HD", and "Swarovski ATS 80". Are they the same scope, or are ther 2 different models?

Thanks

Pancho, they are two different optics.
The ATS 80mm HD utilizes Swarovski's HD flourite glass and, up until the debut of Swarovski's modular AXT/STX series, was probably the finest spotter available. Although some Leica and Kowa owners might take issue with that.

The standard definition Swarovski ATS 80mm is no slouch however; they are darn fine glass in their own right.

These days ATS 80 has also HD glass , only the HD is not more used in the name but on the focussing ring of the scope there is still the HD letters on it.

Yes, the nomenclature is harder to see, but there is clear difference (pun intended) between the older non-HD ATS and newer HD ATS models.

there used to be ATS 80 without HD and ATS 80 with HD glasses, now there is only ATS 80 and those are with HD glasses. (HD is engraved in the focussing ring)

ED glass is now not that expensive,we see its use in fairly inexpensive models and it does very good job indeed, provide quality control keeps correction in place. So it makes sense and its probably cheaper for a company to go ahead and eliminate the model with standard glass to keep a simpler production line .I do wonder if quality of ED glass in these new ATS is equal to the original ATS HD ,and if it would make any difference anyway...

off course the glass will be of same quality or better than the older ATS HD, swarovski deliver quality and the price is still very high for a ATS scope these days
