Hi all,

This is my first real painting of a bird, although it was not from life, but from a book. It is a chukar. Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Oscar.

Hi Oscar - Welcome to the best bit.
There's lots to like in this little watercolour; particularly the way you have made quite a distinct, yet subtle, demarcation between the feather groups. You also appear to have a nice, clean style with the paint that translates well into bird art. I like the fact that the underdrawing is apparent and it adds to the structure of the painting. All in all, very good indeed.

Well, Tim has come along and summed everything up nicely! Recognising the shapes and structure of birds is an important skill to remember when painting them and the delineation of feather groups certainly helps with that. Well done Sir.

I also like the interlocking shapes in the rocks, and the way they echo the shape of the bird. Nice restrained colour palette too.

Welcome to this part of the forum, a great start, nice and lively. Looking forward to seeing more.
