Hi I bought a wimberly head but the thread on my gitzo tri pod seems to big ,I have been told that tri pods sometimes have a reversible thread any ideas please

Sounds strange! All my Gitzo's have the standard 3/8th thread - exactly the same as all my heads including my Wimberley 2.
Did you buy the Wimberley new? If not could the previous owner have put a 1/4 inch adapter in there?
Some Gitzo tripods have reversible threads for mounting the head but not all models do eg. the Systematics don't. The thread in the Wimberley head is 3/8 inch which is the larger size that Gitzo do or the standard size for Gitzo Systematics.
Good luck solving this!

Yes, I think John is right. The Wimberly ships with a 1/4 thread insert and that's probably installed in the thread hole. If this is right, you'll see a screwdriver slot on the bottom of the insert, use it to unscrew the 1/4 and you're back to 3/8!

Unless, of course, someone has installed a 1/4 insert upside down. In which case it's more of a challenge to extract the insert, but not impossible.

Best,
Jerry

It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
