Premier 10 x 42 serial number question (1 Viewer)

It is probably impossible to tell exactly. If it has the word "Premier" on the top of the right prism housing it was made in 2009 or later and is the most recent model. If it has some other designation like "10x42" with the FOV shown in degrees it is older than that.

Most of the speculation about the ages of certain Nikon binoculars took place with the EIIs and the now discontinued SE models.

After the introduction of the EDG in 2009 Nikon dropped the 10x32 and 8x42 HGL/LXL models but kept the 10x42 and the 8x32 and re-designated them "Premier." You could find them listed under "Specialty Binoculars" in the Nikon Sport Optics website. They were finally discontinued after the announcement and release in Europe of the 2 new Monarch HG models. You can now find them in the Nikon Sport Optics archive pages.

By the way, these 42mm models were notorious for "rolling ball" which did not affect the 32mm models.

The so called "rolling ball" and "blackouts" never affected me.

That is often the case. Some people are more susceptible to "rolling ball" than others are. The same thing often happens with CA.

I don't believe the LXL/HGLs had blackout problems. I never experienced them with my 8x32 and 10x32 LXLs.
