Surrey Vice County Life List (1 Viewer)

Here is my life list for the Vice County of Surrey. Surrey is my home county which I have neglected in the past in favour of twitching in Kent.

I go to Beddington all the time. I presume you have a key which is why you hace seen so much more than me!!

Paul

I go to the site regularly and I am a keyholder which pays dividends. The keys are limited in numbers but the keyholders do take people on site particularly when there is a rare bird which can't easily be seen from the vantage points along the public footpath.

Yes, I sometimes go in when the vandals have trashed the fence. Oddly enough I see far more at the pools near Mitcham Golf Course where the access is unresticted. I have seen all the waders you mention (except the Ruff), and you can get MUCH closer. I got within 30 meters of a Greenshank on Sunday which is unusual for me as they are usually off like a shot.
I will ask Santa for a key for Christmas. I have no issue with not having a key, provided all the issued keys are being regularly used by other birders!

Interesting read, Kevin.
My Surrey (VC17) list is just over 150, but I've lived here for quite a few years. (Never been to Beddington and v. rarely twitched. I think the pied-billed grebe was the only one that was a definite twitch.) I saw a few 'goodies' at Barn Elms before the WWT improved it.

Thanks for your comment.

Beddington is my regular patch (I rarely go anywhere else these days!) which has a year list of between 130 - 150 species. I visit Barn Elms occassionaly, I have missed a few good birds there (Bluethroat, Night Heron) in the past.
Its a shame Beddington has not been utilised as a reserve it has so much potential and a life list worthy of such status.

Thanks to information passed by Paulfromtheden via Birdforum I have added the following to my Surrey list. Thanks Paul
