Sunbird - Ethiopia - Addis abeba (1 Viewer)

Hey,

I saw this sunbird today in a park in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. I'm tempted to say it's a female Tacazze Sunbird (Nectarinia tacazze). But the the black strip on the belly/breast makes me doubt... or is this a juvenile?

thanks !
Koen

Welcome to Bird Forum, Koeniye.

I think this has to be female Tacazze. It's absolutely identical to photos I took on my one visit to Ethiopia. And look at the bill!

It's true the belly has a dark line and my Ethiopia bird doesn't, but my book, 'Birds of the Horn of Africa' seems to show a darker lower belly for the female.

Hey MacNara, thank you for the reply, i found the male to, not at the same spot, but in same tree species (bottle-brush). And in similar place (garden), 5km further.
