not sure if you class this bird as a rare sighting.but we have one at the moment at my husbands fishing lake.which is in tichfield hampshire.u.k.
 
It's always worth reporting to your local bird recorder giving date seen, location etc. Is that a springer spaniel? We have a Springer and compared to our other dog - a lab x collie he's a real handfull.
 
Would that be Carron Row?

Bittern is normal in wintertime for the Tichfield reserve just down the road.
