Well, I'm 68 and retired. I've been watching too much TV. My ENTRY started with the movie The Big Year. I rented it once, saw it twice, then bought the DVD. I think the bug got me! Of course a lot of internet searching, then 3 books (National Geographic, Sibley, then a Peterson Field Guide) because it was all they had. Peterson sits on the arm of my place at the couch. The Sibley stays in the bathroom and viewed whenever I'm there. I found a binocular place (Optics4birds) and got a lower midrange set (Vortex Viper 8x42) to see if the hobby sticks without going all out in $$$. I took my 50+ year old binoculars in and asked, "You got anything that's better than these?" He said, "EVERYTHING we have is better than those!" I've been out 3 times so far. First 2 times were awful but the 3rd time I ran into this guy older than I was and he held my hand for 2 hours and I saw 12 New birds. He NOT only knew their name but knew their song. Anyway, I should know better than to start a new hobby at 68 but so far, I've enjoyed it. Gives me something new to look forward to!
